about
2024 — There’s an ongoing crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Millions of people are being forced to flee their homes and livelihoods and end up displaced; thousands have been killed and violated. The reason behind this is the direct and indirect exploitation of this mineral-rich country. Coltan and cobalt are two of many elements mined in the DRC, often through child labor. These minerals power our technological lifestyle; each phone, tablet, computer, etc., has a piece of it. Consequently, many Western countries and companies, some through funding weapons for terrorist groups, compete to take as much as possible, with no regard for the lives of the Congolese.
“Coltan” ’s only lyrics are a recital of a few natural raw materials being taken.
All revenue from this song will be donated to an organization that cares for and acutely supplies currently displaced people with what they need.
